WHERE IT STARTED
Founder & CEO Jim Dunne wasn't in a lab when the idea came to him. He was a Post-Grad student at UCD dealing with sore, beaten-up feet after training. Home remedies weren't cutting it. One particularly memorable night involving coconut butter, tennis socks, and a ruined bedroom later, he knew there had to be a better way.
That problem became a concept. That concept won the Victoria Award for Entrepreneurship.
THE NAME
QILTA is rooted in something much older than sport. Researching ancient Irish athletic heritage, Jim's team uncovered Caoilte Mac Rónáin, nephew of Fionn Mac Cumhaill and reputed to be the fastest man in Ireland.
Born with wild blood and long legs, Caoilte ran so fast he wore lead around his neck so others could keep pace. The Tailteann Games, where Caoilte's speed would have been proven, date back to 1829 BC — over 1,200 years before the Olympics.
